Skiing

Skiing

From beginners to advanced, including freestyle!

Nobody knows winter like Canadians, We don’t know about you, but when the first snow starts to settle, we’re ready to hit the slopes.

Evolve Snow Camps specializes in ski lessons, camps and coaching programs and picks up kids across the GTA and drives them up to Mount St. Louis Moonstone for all day ski lessons. Offered on Saturdays and Sundays, transportation and lift tickets included.

Skiing offers an amazing opportunity to get exercise, learn a new skill, and improve coordination, without the competitive nature of most sports. Skiing teaches kids to compete against themselves and allows them to feel a sense of accomplishment without beating another team or person – it’s also a great way to show kids that winter can be fun! After all, we live in Canada. We might as well embrace the winter.

Evolve provides skiers of every skill level the opportunity to improve and train with experienced ski instructors. We also provide more advanced skiers the opportunity to learn freestyle techniques – from basic terrain park fundamentals to fine tuning the most technical tricks. Evolve Snow Camps coaches and staff work as a team to create a friendly and fun experience for everyone involved.

Our program operates for 8 weeks because we believe that the best way to develop your ski skills is through repetition. Over the course of the 8-week program. Evolve Snow Camps coaches and staff work as a team to create a friendly and fun experience for beginner, intermediate, and advanced skiers. Campers are placed in a group based on skill level, age and, in some cases, gender. We provide coaching with ski instructors that have years of experience teaching young children. We prefer to keep campers with the same coach for the duration of the winter where possible. However, we also move some campers to different groups as their skill level evolves over the course of the season. Skiers as young as 6 years old can get started at our Evolve ski camp; but we ensure plenty of time for snacks, bathroom breaks, and rest for our younger campers.

We offer two different programs at Evolve: our traditional downhill ski lessons, and our Evolve Freestyle program, which focuses on skill development in the terrain park.

Evolve Ski Lessons

Evolve Ski Lessons

Evolve Skiing Camp is Canada’s premier winter skiing camp – currently operating in Ontario offering children the opportunity to turn a hobby into an action sport they’ll have a lifelong passion for.

Skiing is a great way to get kids outside in the winter months: in many households, kids spent countless hours in front the computer or tv, especially January – March. Skiing gets kids active and excited for the outdoors. It also requires good core and lower body strength, so it will help kids in other athletic pursuits, as well as improve their overall coordination and agility. Evolve offers campers a unique, exciting and engaging skiing experience unlike any other day camp atmosphere in the city; whether they’re looking to stomp their first trick, or continue to hone their skills as advanced skiers. Our camps are also a great opportunity for kids to make new friends and meet new people. We try to keep kids and their councillors together all session, leading to new friendships that last outside of camp.

Evolve’s ski lessons cater to beginner, intermediate or advanced skiers between the ages of 6-15. The program is designed to provide kids with the foundations that will allow them to safely progress to higher levels within the sport. Our 8 week lessons will help with the progression and skill development of each child. Our number one focus being safety!

Skill Levels

At Evolve Snow Camps, our well developed skiing lesson plans ensure that campers of all skill levels are making the most out of their time at our winter camp. Evolve’s highly structured format allows campers to advance through the different skiing levels as their skill level improves – this could be over the course of the week, the winter or several winters at Evolve Snow Camps.

Beginner
Evolve’s beginner ski lessons will teach campers how to control their skis on flat areas, until they are ready to progress onto the green runs at MSLM. There are so many great green runs for our campers to practice on that they will never run out of chances to improve. We also introduce them to the wonderful invention known as a chairlift!
Intermediate
Evolve’s intermediate ski lessons will have campers learning ski on the more challenging blue runs. The skills that are taught in our intermediate program will allow our campers to feel even more confident on their skis. At this level, we introduce the campers to skiing with poles, skiing at high speeds with more control, and learning very basic freeriding techniques.
Advanced
Evolve’s advanced ski lessons will have campers learning how to properly parallel ski on black-diamond runs. Skiers of this level are comfortable on any type of terrain at Mount St. Louis-Moonstone. Campers progress through the introduction of basic freeriding and freestyle instruction on natural features throughout the different hills at MSLM. By the time campers are in the advanced group, they are ready to focus on stronger skill development like carving, freeriding and small natural jumps on the hill.

Equipment

Campers must have their own skiing equipment to be safe and successful – it’s much easier to learn how to ski when you’re comfortable using your own gear: this is important for all skill levels, beginners, intermediate, and advanced. Here is a list of equipment you will need for your child to attend our programs:

    Safety First

At Evolve, our training programs are rigorous. While our goal is to provide excitement and memorable experiences around every corner, safety is always our number one priority. We adhere to strict processes and industry standards. Even if your child has been shredding for years, we still strictly enforce mandatory safety equipment and proper supervision at all times. Practicing safety while riding is a life-long habit we try to instill in each Evolve participant.

  • Evolve's 'Challenge By Choice'
    Evolve's 'Challenge By Choice'

Each camper is sufficiently and safely coached and supervised from their arrival to their departure. To reduce the inherent risks while riding, we ensure that all campers master the fundamental skills at each level of progression. We employ a “challenge by choice” philosophy, which means we never force anyone to do something they’re not comfortable doing. Instead we offer the challenge, and give them the tools to succeed.

General FAQ

02. How do you teach someone an action sport?

On the first day of camp we assess a camper’s skills. After we break into groups we run through a series of fundamental skills to make sure everyone in the group is on the same page. Then, we hone in on skills through demonstration by staff and repetition by our campers. We have found this to be a useful teaching method for skateboarding, biking, snowboarding and many other action sports. Many people have learned on their own after years of practice and hard falls: at Evolve, we’re confident we can accelerate the process through our methods of teaching – sometimes with a healthy number of falls!

03. What is the staff to camper ratio?

Evolve Camps for all sports have a 1:6 or 1:8 staff to camper ratio, ensuring that all campers are receiving sufficient attention and supervision.

04. Do campers have to participate in lessons?

Campers are not forced into camp lessons, but they are asked to participate. If the lesson is covering skills that the camper has already mastered they will be able to free ride. They will then receive a one on one lesson in the afternoon where they can work on a new skill.

05. How do you ensure safety at camp?

Extreme sports have their inherent risks – it’s hard to progress in these sports without taking on new challenges and exposing ourselves to greater risk. At Evolve, we try to limit exposure to injury by ensuring campers wear helmets and enough functional padding. Safety is also an integral part of the training and camp environment of Evolve. Our staff teach extreme sports within specific limits in a step by step method. We employ a “challenge by choice” philosophy, which means we never force anyone to do something they’re not comfortable doing. Instead we offer the challenge, its there for the taking.

06. Do campers need lunch?

Yes all campers need to bring a lunch. For some programs we offer hot lunch programs.

07. Your videos and pictures look cool, but everyone looks so professional. Will my child be doing all those crazy tricks?

We obviously try and showcase our best “talent” in these videos. If they are beginners, your child probably isn’t at the level of some of the shots in our video/photos. Maybe some day, but for now they are more at a developmental level. They will still be in Camp videos and/or Photographs taken at camp.

08. My child doesn’t know anybody at the camp. Will they make new friends?

Many campers come to camp not knowing anybody. On the first day of camp our staff ensure that all campers get to know each other. The best part about the program is that they are with the same “cabin” for the entire season, so close bonds are formed quickly.

09. My child has never participated in an action sport before, should they attend camp?

Yes! Whether they’re a learned snowboarder transitioning to skateboarding, or new to action sports in general, we have a wide range of skills levels at all of our camps. We pride ourselves on taking beginner campers and teaching them the skills they need to love their sport of choice. Nothing is more exciting than having a beginner camper show up on a Monday as a complete rookie and leave on a Friday like a veteran.

10. Are Evolve Camps affordable?

We have priced Evolve Camps as an affordable day camp program. You will find that the price of our camps are about the average price of quality day camps and programs.

11. Do I get a discount if I have another sibling/child enrolled in the camp?

Families with multiple campers (who are siblings with the same parents and residence) will receive the following discounts: $25 off the 2nd registration (does not apply for March break), $25 off the 3rd registration.

12. What if I miss the bus during one of the pick up times?

Our buses need to be on time in order to maximize our time at camp. That being said, our buses leave at the exact time that is on the schedule. If you miss the bus, it is your responsibility to drive your child up to camp or to the next stop nearest to you.

13. Can my child stay behind at the end of the day and catch a ride home with me?

Yes, All you need to do is notify our office that your child will not be coming home on the bus. We will provide instructions on how to do this.
