Winter Is Coming…EARLY

September 4, 2015

Sorry to all you Game of Thrones fans, but “Winter is Coming” is a darn good thing to hear for us skiers and snowboarders.

This year, we get to say it sooner than later.

The first signs of an early winter season came back on August 19th, when Denver, Colorado reported record low temperatures and light dusting of snow in the Rocky Mountain National Park. A webcam outside of the Alpine Visitor Center, capturing footage from along the Trail Ridge Road, caught these beautiful snowy flakes falling on a Wednesday morning. Unofficial Networks hyped up the excitement amongst skier and snowboarders, spreading the good news to the community.

Next, reports from Banff released mention of the August powder that had accumulated in the area.  Powder Chaser, Trevor Sexsmith,  boasted with a POV video of the Collier Peak Summer Pow. He filmed the movie on August 24th, 2015 – and secured our hopes that Winter is Coming early for the 2015/2016 Season.

Whistler was next in the snow reports, claiming isolated flurries to have fallen on Whistler’s peak this past Wednesday. Apparently snow fell both at the lower roundhouse lodge, as well as at the mountain’s peak.

Nelson, Jasper, and Banff are amongst the areas who have also seen snow falling in the past week
