Skill Levels

At Evolve Skate Camps, our well developed skateboard lesson plans ensure that campers of all skill levels are making the most out of their time at our summer camp. Evolve’s highly structured format allows campers to advance through the different skateboard levels as their skill level improves – this could be over the course of the week, the summer or several summers at Evolve Skate Camp.

Beginner

Beginners at Evolve Skate Camp are introduced to basic pushing and foot movements within the first hour of camp. As the day continues and campers get comfortable with the skatepark, we slowly introduce them to the first level of flat ramps. As the week goes on, beginner campers are shown basic skateboarding skills from pumping on half pipes to doing their first Ollie. We also teach campers how to properly fall, as any skateboarder will do as much falling as skating when they are learning. As the week continues; individuals will grasp certain skills quicker, so group sizes are broken down to ensure that campers are continuing to learn what interests them most.

Intermediate

Intermediate skateboard lessons at Evolve Skate Camp range from dropping in and basic vert tricks to basic flatland tricks. Intermediate skateboarders at Evolve Skate Camps take part in structured morning skateboard lessons in their groups, this allows them to learn new skills in the morning and practice them in the afternoon. The Intermediate campers are offered additional assistance in the afternoon sessions to help perfect their new skills.

Advanced

Advanced skateboard campers come to Evolve Skate camp with a set of goals for the week in mind. That is why our advanced campers have one-on-one instructor time in the afternoon. Allowing advanced riders to warm up in the morning gives the coaches an opportunity to see what type of tricks each camper is working on that day. Through the Evolve Skate Camps process, advanced riders will leave camp with a new arsenal of skateboard tricks.

Equipment

Campers must have their own skateboarding equipment to be safe and successful – it’s much easier to learn how to skateboard when you’re comfortable using your own gear: this is important for all skill levels, beginners, intermediate, and advanced. Here is a list of equipment you will need for your child to attend our programs:

Skateboard

Skateboards are made up of three main components: the board, the trucks, and the wheels. Check out our equipment guide for help selecting the perfect skateboard!

Skill Levels

At Evolve Snow Camps, our well developed snowboard lesson plans ensure that campers of all skill levels are making the most out of their time at our winter camp. Evolve’s highly structured format allows campers to advance through the different snowboard levels as their skill level improves – this could be over the course of the week, the winter or several winters at Evolve Snow Camp.

Beginner

Evolve’s beginner snowboard lessons will teach campers basic techniques like turning in both directions on MSLM’s beginner hills. Campers will learn how to control their boards on flat areas, until they are ready to progress onto the green runs at MSLM. There are so many great green runs for our campers to practice on that they will never run out of chances to improve. We also introduce them to the wonderful invention known as a chairlift!

Intermediate

Evolve’s intermediate snowboard lessons have the campers take skills that they learned in our beginner lessons, and start applying them to more challenging terrain on the blue runs. At this level, campers will learn to turn comfortably on bigger hills, to snowboard at higher speeds with more control, and they will learn very basic freeriding techniques.

Advanced

Evolve’s advanced snowboard lessons are for campers that have a strong skill foundation in snowboarding. They are comfortable on any type of terrain at Mount St. Louis-Moonstone. These snowboarders are looking to further their progression. Campers progress through the introduction of basic freeriding and freestyle instruction on natural features throughout the different hills at MSLM. By the time campers are in the advanced group, they are ready to focus on stronger skill development like carving, freeriding and small natural jumps on the hill.

Equipment

Campers must have their own snowboarding equipment to be safe and successful – it’s much easier to learn how to snowboard when you’re comfortable using your own gear: this is important for all skill levels, beginners, intermediate, and advanced. Skill Levels

At Evolve Snow Camps, our well developed skiing lesson plans ensure that campers of all skill levels are making the most out of their time at our winter camp. Evolve’s highly structured format allows campers to advance through the different skiing levels as their skill level improves – this could be over the course of the week, the winter or several winters at Evolve Snow Camps.

Beginner

Evolve’s beginner ski lessons will teach campers how to control their skis on flat areas, until they are ready to progress onto the green runs at MSLM. There are so many great green runs for our campers to practice on that they will never run out of chances to improve. We also introduce them to the wonderful invention known as a chairlift!

Intermediate

Evolve’s intermediate ski lessons will have campers learning ski on the more challenging blue runs. The skills that are taught in our intermediate program will allow our campers to feel even more confident on their skis. At this level, we introduce the campers to skiing with poles, skiing at high speeds with more control, and learning very basic freeriding techniques.

Advanced

Evolve’s advanced ski lessons will have campers learning how to properly parallel ski on black-diamond runs. Skiers of this level are comfortable on any type of terrain at Mount St. Louis-Moonstone. Campers progress through the introduction of basic freeriding and freestyle instruction on natural features throughout the different hills at MSLM. By the time campers are in the advanced group, they are ready to focus on stronger skill development like carving, freeriding and small natural jumps on the hill.

Equipment

Campers must have their own skiing equipment to be safe and successful – it’s much easier to learn how to ski when you’re comfortable using your own gear: this is important for all skill levels, beginners, intermediate, and advanced. Here is a list of equipment you will need for your child to attend our programs:

Skis & Poles

Check out our equipment guide for help selecting the perfect skis and poles!

Helmets

Toronto (GTA) Biking

Camps

Evolve’s Toronto BMX Camp takes your kids on a GTA-wide tour of different bike/skate parks all summer, with a new location every day of the week! Our buses are on the road by 7:30 in the morning to pick up campers from a convenient pickup spot near you, then transport them to a location for the day. Campers work side-by-side with our qualified coaches to develop a strong scooter foundation throughout the week. Each day campers receive personalized instruction and participate in lots of other fun activities to ensure the ultimate Evolve experience. This program is designed for boys and girls aged 7-14 and welcomes all skill levels.

Every day campers get to visit a different park. This ensures that all campers are getting a completely unique experience while challenging their skills in a new environment each day.

Evolve’s Toronto BMX Camp pickup locations are comprehensively located throughout our network in the GTA. We operate three to four routes, depending which pickup locations are available that week. We are a dynamic program, so as we grow as a camp we add additional pickup locations. If you don’t see a spot close to where you live, don’t fret! We’re working on it. For this summer’s day camps, we have introduced some new pickup locations. Check out where we pick up in your neighbourhood!

Skill Levels

All campers upon arrival will undergo a skill assessment to ensure safety and proper program placement. At Evolve Bike Camps, our well developed biking and BMX lesson plans ensure that campers of all skill levels are making the most out of their time at camp. Evolve’s highly structured format allows campers to advance through the different biking levels and become more confident as their skill level improves – this could be over the course of the week, the summer, or several summers at Evolve Bike Camps.

Beginner

Beginners at Evolve Camps are introduced to basic biking and trick movements within the first hour of camp. As the day continues and campers get comfortable with the terrain, we slowly introduce them to the first level of flat ramps. As the week goes on, beginner campers are shown basic skills from pumping on half pipes to doing their first Bunny Hop (like a bike version of an ollie!). We also teach campers how to properly fall, as any cyclist will do as much falling as biking when they are learning. As the week continues; individuals will grasp certain skills quicker, so group sizes are broken down to ensure that campers are continuing to learn what interests them most.

Intermediate

Intermediate biking lessons at Evolve range from dropping in and basic vert tricks to basic flatland tricks. Intermediate campers take part in structured morning lessons in their groups, this allows them to learn new skills in the morning and practice them in the afternoon. The Intermediate campers are offered additional assistance in the afternoon sessions to help perfect their new skills.

Advanced

Advanced campers come to Evolve camps with a set of goals for the week in mind. That is why our advanced campers have one-on-one instructor time in the afternoon. Allowing advanced riders to warm up in the morning gives the coaches an opportunity to see what type of tricks each camper is working on that day. Through the Evolve Camps process, advanced campers will leave camp with a new arsenal of tricks.

Equipment

Campers must have their own biking equipment to be safe and successful – it’s much easier to learn how to bike when you’re comfortable using your own gear: this is important for all skill levels, beginners, intermediate, and advanced. Here is a list of equipment you will need for your child to attend our programs:

General FAQ

02. How do you teach someone an action sport?

On the first day of camp we assess a camper’s skills. After we break into groups we run through a series of fundamental skills to make sure everyone in the group is on the same page. Then, we hone in on skills through demonstration by staff and repetition by our campers. We have found this to be a useful teaching method for skateboarding, biking, snowboarding and many other action sports. Many people have learned on their own after years of practice and hard falls: at Evolve, we’re confident we can accelerate the process through our methods of teaching – sometimes with a healthy number of falls!

03. What is the staff to camper ratio?

Evolve Camps for all sports have a 1:6 or 1:8 staff to camper ratio, ensuring that all campers are receiving sufficient attention and supervision.

04. Do campers have to participate in lessons?

Campers are not forced into camp lessons, but they are asked to participate. If the lesson is covering skills that the camper has already mastered they will be able to free ride. They will then receive a one on one lesson in the afternoon where they can work on a new skill.

05. How do you ensure safety at camp?

Extreme sports have their inherent risks – it’s hard to progress in these sports without taking on new challenges and exposing ourselves to greater risk. At Evolve, we try to limit exposure to injury by ensuring campers wear helmets and enough functional padding. Safety is also an integral part of the training and camp environment of Evolve. Our staff teach extreme sports within specific limits in a step by step method. We employ a “challenge by choice” philosophy, which means we never force anyone to do something they’re not comfortable doing. Instead we offer the challenge, its there for the taking.

06. Do campers need lunch?

Yes all campers need to bring a lunch. For some programs we offer hot lunch programs.

07. Your videos and pictures look cool, but everyone looks so professional. Will my child be doing all those crazy tricks?

We obviously try and showcase our best “talent” in these videos. If they are beginners, your child probably isn’t at the level of some of the shots in our video/photos. Maybe some day, but for now they are more at a developmental level. They will still be in Camp videos and/or Photographs taken at camp.

08. My child doesn’t know anybody at the camp. Will they make new friends?

Many campers come to camp not knowing anybody. On the first day of camp our staff ensure that all campers get to know each other. The best part about the program is that they are with the same “cabin” for the entire season, so close bonds are formed quickly.

09. My child has never participated in an action sport before, should they attend camp?

Yes! Whether they’re a learned snowboarder transitioning to skateboarding, or new to action sports in general, we have a wide range of skills levels at all of our camps. We pride ourselves on taking beginner campers and teaching them the skills they need to love their sport of choice. Nothing is more exciting than having a beginner camper show up on a Monday as a complete rookie and leave on a Friday like a veteran.

10. Are Evolve Camps affordable?

We have priced Evolve Camps as an affordable day camp program. You will find that the price of our camps are about the average price of quality day camps and programs.

11. Do I get a discount if I have another sibling/child enrolled in the camp?

Families with multiple campers (who are siblings with the same parents and residence) will receive the following discounts: $25 off the 2nd registration (does not apply for March break), $25 off the 3rd registration.

12. What if I miss the bus during one of the pick up times?

Our buses need to be on time in order to maximize our time at camp. That being said, our buses leave at the exact time that is on the schedule. If you miss the bus, it is your responsibility to drive your child up to camp or to the next stop nearest to you.

13. Can my child stay behind at the end of the day and catch a ride home with me?

Yes, All you need to do is notify our office that your child will not be coming home on the bus. We will provide instructions on how to do this.
